The Columbus Division of Police has identified Kamarcus Sowell-Butler, 18, as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred on the night of Thursday, April 16, 2026, in southwest Columbus, Ohio.

Authorities have arrested another 18-year-old in connection with the incident, which appears to have taken place within a private residence.

The Incident
Time and Location: Officers were dispatched at approximately 10:00 p.m. to an apartment complex in the 1500 block of Autumn Village Drive, located near Harrisburg Pike.

The Scene: Upon arrival, first responders located Sowell-Butler suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene at 10:15 p.m.

Circumstances: According to Franklin County Municipal Court documents, Sowell-Butler was in a bedroom with several other individuals at the time of the shooting. The gunfire was reportedly discharged within that room, striking the victim.

Arrest and Legal Proceedings
The Suspect: Police detained Damien Grier, 18, at the scene of the shooting.

Charges: Following a preliminary investigation by homicide detectives, Grier was charged with murder.

Current Status: Grier was booked into the Franklin County Jail. He is scheduled to be formally arraigned on the morning of Saturday, April 18, 2026.
