Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified Adam J. Troutman, a 27-year-old resident of Louisville, as the victim of a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred late Thursday night, April 16, 2026.

The incident took place in the Highview neighborhood and has prompted an active investigation by the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD).

    Details of the Crash
Time and Location: Officers responded to a report of a “person down” at approximately 11:00 p.m. near the intersection of Vaughn Mill Road and Briscoe Lane.

The Incident: Preliminary findings indicate that Troutman was walking northbound along the right-hand shoulder of Vaughn Mill Road. Because the area was dark and unlit, police believe he was struck from behind by a vehicle traveling in the same direction.

The Aftermath: The force of the impact knocked Troutman off the roadway and into a nearby ditch. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop, render aid, or report the collision, fleeing the scene immediately.

Outcome: When LMPD and EMS arrived, Troutman was found suffering from severe injuries and was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigation and Search for the Driver
The LMPD Traffic Unit is leading the investigation into the hit-and-run. Currently, there is no detailed description of the suspect vehicle, though investigators are reviewing local surveillance footage and canvassing the area for debris that might identify the make and model of the car.

    Community Tributes
Adam is being remembered by those who knew him as a young man with a kind heart and a quiet, friendly demeanor. Neighbors in the Highview area have expressed shock and sadness over the incident, with many calling for increased lighting and safety measures along Vaughn Mill Road.

Formal obituary details and funeral arrangements are being finalized by his family and are expected to be shared in the coming days.

How You Can Help: Louisville Metro Police are urging anyone who was in the Highview area late Thursday night or who may have noticed a vehicle with fresh front-end or passenger-side damage to come forward.
