The Ottumwa community is mourning the loss of 18-year-old Ashlin Knuth, a recent graduate of the Ottumwa High School Class of 2026, who tragically died following a two-vehicle collision on Sunday night, May 17, 2026.
Details of the Crash
According to the Ottumwa Police Department, emergency responders were dispatched to the scene of a severe accident just after 9:15 PM on Sunday.
Investigating officers determined that Knuth was driving a vehicle westbound on Roemer Avenue. As she entered the intersection, her vehicle collided with a pickup truck that was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 34. The front of the truck struck the driver’s side of Knuth’s vehicle.
Emergency Response and Casualties
Emergency personnel immediately provided medical intervention at the scene:
Ashlin Knuth: Tragically, due to the severe impact of the crash, Knuth succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The Other Driver: The driver of the pickup truck, identified as a 60-year-old man from Eldon, Iowa, suffered minor injuries and was transported to the Ottumwa Regional Health Center for evaluation.
