The obituary and public memorials for 19-year-old Davion Flanagan are linked to a high-profile national news case from Strongsville, Ohio. Davion tragically passed away on the morning of July 31, 2022, alongside his friend Dominic Russo, in a high-speed car crash that was later ruled a intentional double homicide by the driver.
His story has been at the forefront of public discussion following the release of the true-crime documentary The Crash on Netflix.
Life and Legacy
Davion was widely known in the Strongsville community for his infectious smile, kindness, and deep dedication to his friends and family.
Athletics: He was a gifted, lifelong athlete who excelled in track, baseball, basketball, and swimming. His greatest passion was football; he served as the starting running back for the Strongsville High School Mustangs during his senior graduating year in 2022.
Community: During the summers, Davion balanced his own grueling football practices with volunteering as a youth coach for the local summer swim league.
Future Aspirations: Beyond sports, Davion was an artistically talented young man who loved cutting hair. He frequently gave fresh cuts to his friends and teammates, and he had been working full-time after graduation to save money for tuition at the Allstate Hairstyling & Barber College in Cleveland, dreaming of one day opening his own barber shop.
Family & Funeral Arrangements
Davion was the beloved oldest child of Scott and Jaime Flanagan, who adopted Davion and his two younger sisters, Davyne and Dalia, when he was 8 years old.
His celebration of life services were held in August 2022 at Grace Church in Middleburg Heights, Ohio, followed by his interment at the Strongsville Cemetery.
The Davion Flanagan Memorial Scholarship Fund
In the wake of the tragedy, his parents and sister refused to let Davion be defined solely by the circumstances of his death. They established a certified 501(c)(3) non-profit called the Davion Flanagan Memorial Scholarship Fund.
The foundation honors Davion’s legacy of generosity by awarding financial scholarships to aspiring students enrolling in barber and cosmetology schools—helping other young people achieve the exact career dreams that were cut short for Davion. The family awarded their foundation’s very first recipient at the barber college.
