The Chula Vista Police Department (CVPD) and local emergency crews responded to a fatal shooting that left an 18-year-old dead and resulted in the swift detention of a suspect.
The Incident
The shooting occurred late in the evening in a residential area of Chula Vista:
The Initial Call: At approximately 10:15 PM, emergency dispatchers received multiple 911 calls reporting the sound of gunfire and a person lying in the roadway.
Emergency Response: Upon arrival at the scene, police officers and paramedics located an 18-year-old male victim suffering from at least one critical gunshot wound.
Medical Treatment: First responders immediately administered CPR and life-saving measures. The young man was rushed by ambulance to a nearby regional trauma center, but despite the efforts of medical staff, he was tragically pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.
Suspect Detained
Following the shooting, patrol officers established a tight perimeter around the neighborhood, utilizing witness descriptions of a person seen fleeing the immediate area on foot.
Investigation Update: Within an hour of the initial shooting, containment officers spotted an individual matching the physical and clothing description provided by witnesses. After a brief foot pursuit, one suspect was successfully detained without further incident.
Detectives from the Chula Vista Police Department’s Homicide Unit took over the scene to process ballistic evidence, map out the crime scene, and interview nearby residents. A motive for the shooting has not yet been formally released, and the names of both the victim and the detained suspect are currently being withheld pending formal identification and notification of next of kin.
