The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has arrested and charged a local man following a violent altercation that escalated into a shooting on Thursday night, May 14, 2026.
The suspect, Robert Stachura, was taken into custody at the scene. In a news release issued on Monday, May 18, authorities announced that Stachura faces multiple felony charges, including:
Two counts of attempted murder
Discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle
Possession of a weapon during a violent crime

According to investigators, the shooting stemmed from a disagreement that turned volatile.
On the night of May 14, Sumter County deputies responded to emergency calls reporting shots fired at a residence on Amelia Drive, located in the Cherryvale neighborhood near Shaw Air Force Base.
Upon arriving, deputies discovered that Stachura had opened fire directly into an occupied vehicle. One individual inside the car was struck by the gunfire.
Current Status and Victim Information
The wounded victim was quickly treated at the scene by emergency medical services before being transported to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital for treatment. Law enforcement officials have not yet released the victim’s name or updated their current medical condition. No other injuries were reported from the scene.
Stachura was successfully detained by responding deputies without further incident and was booked into the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, where he awaits his bond hearing.
