The Edmond Police Department has announced a major breakthrough in the investigation into the mass shooting at Arcadia Lake, confirming the arrest of a primary suspect and the upgrading of charges to Felony Murder.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
The Suspect: Jaylan Ahmad Davis, 18, turned himself in to the Edmond Police Department on Wednesday morning, May 6, 2026, after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Upgraded Charges: Davis was initially booked on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. However, following the death of 18-year-old victim Avianna Smith-Gray, Oklahoma County District Attorney Vicki Behenna announced the charge would be upgraded to First-Degree Felony Murder.

Bond: Davis is currently being held at the Edmond jail on a $1 million bond.
Investigation Details
The Incident: The shooting occurred on Sunday, May 3, 2026, during an unpermitted “Sunday Funday” party at the Scissortail Campground. Over 80 rounds were fired into a crowd of approximately 100 people.

Motive: Edmond Police Chief J.D. Younger stated that the violence began with an argument between two women, which quickly escalated into a shootout between rival gang members. According to court affidavits, Davis is an alleged member of the North Highland Piru gang.

Avianna Smith-Gray: A high school senior set to graduate this month. She died Tuesday from gunshot wounds to the head.
22 Others Injured: Victims aged 15 to 20 suffered gunshot and shrapnel wounds.

During a news conference on Wednesday, Chief Younger addressed the community:
“We’re trying to find justice for 23 people that were shot… Mr. Davis’ arrest is not the conclusion of the investigation. It is merely the most recent development.”
