A shooting at a popular pub in Akron, Ohio, has left one man dead and another injured. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the deceased victim as Eric Schaffer, 31, of Cuyahoga Falls.
The incident occurred on the evening of Monday, May 4, 2026, at the Noisy Oyster Pub on North Portage Path.
Details of the Shooting
The Incident: At approximately 8:14 p.m., an argument broke out inside the establishment between the suspect and the victims. According to Akron Police, the situation escalated into a physical fight before the suspect opened fire.
The Victims:
Eric Schaffer: Sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. He was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General, where he was pronounced dead at 8:49 p.m.
Second Victim: A 35-year-old man was shot in both legs. He was taken to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
The Suspect: Police identified the shooter as Larnell Nealy Jr., 28. Nealy fled the scene on foot immediately after the gunfire.
The Surrender
Following the shooting, Akron Police launched an extensive search involving K9 units and drones. However, the search ended when Larnell Nealy Jr. turned himself in at the Summit County Jail at approximately 11:21 p.m. that same night.
Current Status
Charges: Nealy has been charged with Murder and Felonious Assault. He is currently being held as the legal process moves forward.
Impact: The Noisy Oyster Pub issued a statement expressing heartbreak over the “senseless act of violence” and announced a temporary closure to support their staff and the grieving community.
Akron Police Chief Brian Harding commended the quick response of officers and partner agencies, while emphasizing that such escalations of violence are “not acceptable in our community.”
