In a harrowing incident in Madhya Pradesh, a two-year-old boy was rescued on Sunday, May 3, 2026, after surviving nearly 20 hours alone in a dense forest.
The toddler’s father was arrested for allegedly murdering the boy’s mother and abandoning the child in a remote area known for wild animal activity.
The Incident
The Murder: Police state that on Saturday afternoon, the 25-year-old suspect allegedly killed his wife by crushing her head with a stone in a village in the Haidergarh area of Vidisha district.
Abandonment: Following the murder, the man reportedly took his son on a motorcycle to the neighboring Begumganj belt in Raisen district. He abandoned the child near a stream behind a temple in a thick forest and fled.
The Arrest: The man was apprehended after the woman’s body was discovered. Initially, he misled investigators and did not mention the child, which delayed rescue efforts until police learned of the missing boy from other family members.
The Rescue
Search Operation: Multiple police teams and local volunteers searched through the night using torches to comb the uneven terrain.
The Discovery: Around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, rescuers heard a faint sound and found the boy walking barefoot and unclothed from the waist down, nearly 2km away from where he was originally dropped.
Condition: Despite being weak and dehydrated, the child was found alive. He was immediately provided with food and water before being stabilized at a local hospital.
Authorities have described the boy’s survival as a “miracle,” given the presence of wild animals and the extreme conditions of the forest overnight. The father remains in custody facing charges for murder and abandonment.
