  • Wisconsin, a suspect involved in a kidnapping led police on a chase, crashed, fled, and later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a standoff

    The Kidnapping: The situation began on Friday, April 10, when a 45-year-old man allegedly broke into a woman’s home in Waunakee and held her captive with a weapon. The victim was able to escape and notify the police on Sunday afternoon.

    The Pursuit: At approximately 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, authorities tracked the suspect’s truck heading toward Columbia County. A high-speed chase ensued through heavy rain and poor visibility, involving multiple agencies, including the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.

    The Crash: The suspect eventually crashed his vehicle on Highway 78 in Caledonia, between Old U Road and Biech Road.

    The Standoff and Death: After the crash, the suspect remained in the vehicle, leading to a two-and-a-half-hour standoff. Despite negotiation attempts, the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene.

    Aftermath and Injuries
    Deputy Injured: One Columbia County Sheriff’s deputy sustained a minor arm injury during the incident and was treated at a local hospital.

    Road Closures: Highway 78 remained closed for approximately six hours during the investigation and was reopened around 10:45 p.m. Sunday night.

    The identity of the suspect has not been publicly released as of this morning. Local authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the initial break-in and kidnapping.
