Significant developments have been reported in the investigation into the mass shooting at Arcadia Lake in Edmond, Oklahoma, which tragically resulted in the death of 18-year-old Avianna Smith-Gray.
Arrest and Charges
Suspect in Custody: On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, 18-year-old Jaylan Ahmad Davis turned himself in to the Edmond Police Department after an arrest warrant was issued for his involvement in the shooting.
Upgraded Charges: Davis was initially booked on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. However, following the death of Avianna Smith-Gray, Oklahoma County District Attorney Vicki Behenna announced that the charge would be upgraded to felony murder.
Bond: Davis is currently being held on a $1 million bond.
Details of the Shooting
The Incident: The shooting occurred on the night of Sunday, May 3, 2026, during an unsanctioned “Sunday Funday” party at the Scissortail Campground at Arcadia Lake.
The Catalyst: Police believe the violence erupted from an argument between two women that escalated into an exchange of gunfire between rival gang members. More than 80 rounds were fired into the crowd.
The Victims:
Avianna Smith-Gray: A high school senior who was set to graduate later this month. She was shot in the head and passed away from her injuries on Tuesday, May 5.
Others Injured: A total of 22 other people were injured by gunfire or shrapnel. Six of the victims were juveniles, some as young as 15.
Ongoing Investigation
Edmond Police Chief J.D. Younger stated that investigators believe there is at least one more suspect involved in the shooting.
“We’re trying to find justice for 23 people that were shot, one that’s deceased and even the people that were involved,” Chief Younger said during a news conference.
