Authorities in Memphis, Tennessee, have provided a major update regarding the shooting on South Cooper Street that left two women in critical condition on Tuesday afternoon, May 5, 2026.
The Arrest
The Memphis Police Department (MPD) confirmed that a suspect is now in custody.
Suspect: Aljon Tyler, 30, was arrested on Wednesday, May 6.
Charges: Tyler has been charged with three counts of attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
Details of the Shooting
Location: The incident occurred at the headquarters of OUTMemphis, an LGBTQ+ community center located at 892 S. Cooper St. in the Cooper-Young neighborhood.
Timeline: Police responded to the scene at approximately 4:15 p.m. following reports of a conflict between individuals that escalated into gunfire.
The Victims: Officers found two women suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were transported to a local hospital in critical condition. As of today, May 7, their conditions have not been further updated, but they remain under medical care.
