Incident Details
Location: The blaze broke out at a building on Dyckman Street, situated between Broadway and Vermilyea Avenue.

Timeline: The FDNY received the emergency call around 12:30 a.m. Firefighters arrived within minutes to find flames rapidly extending from the first-floor public hallway up the building’s only interior stairwell.

Response: More than 190 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene. Residents were seen frantically escaping via fire escapes as the interior stairs became impassable.

Casualties and Injuries
Fatalities: Three individuals have been confirmed dead.

Injuries: 14 people were treated for injuries. Of those, five are in critical condition.

First Responders: One firefighter sustained minor injuries while battling the blaze.

Damage: The fire incinerated at least eight apartments. Fire officials noted that apartments with closed doors suffered significantly less damage, whereas open doors allowed the fire to spread more aggressively.
