Details of the Accident
Time and Location: The crash occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m. on County Road 700 West, just south of County Road 850 North in rural Wabash County.

The Incident: Mason was a passenger in a 2013 Chevrolet Caprice driven by 19-year-old Jonathan T. Patton of Laketon. The vehicle was traveling southbound when it left the roadway for unknown reasons and struck a tree.

Outcome: Mason was tragically pronounced dead at the scene by the Wabash County Coroner’s Office. The driver, Patton, was airlifted to a regional hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigation: Preliminary findings by the Indiana State Police suggest that excessive speed and alcohol consumption may have been contributing factors to the crash. The investigation remains active.

Remembering “Mator”
Mason was a well-known and vibrant young man in the North Manchester community.

Education: He had recently achieved the significant milestone of early graduation from Manchester High School, an accomplishment his family says he was deeply proud of.

Personality: Known affectionately by the nickname “Mator,” he was recognized for his signature sock cap, his quick wit, and his ability to make others laugh.

Interests: He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and riding minibikes, and he also enjoyed the world of video games.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to McKee Mortuary in North Manchester:

Visitation: Tuesday, May 5, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Funeral Service: Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, with Pastor Shawn Bradley officiating.

Memorial Contributions: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to McKee Mortuary to assist with final arrangements.

Mason is survived by his parents, Christopher Lee Grindle and Amy Blevins (stepfather Dillon Eakright), and three siblings: Landon, Emmy Kaye, and Camden.
