The Pawling community is mourning the tragic loss of Kayden Kabashi, 19, who passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026, following a devastating motorcycle accident earlier in the week.
The Accident
The collision occurred on the morning of Monday, April 27, 2026, at the intersection of Route 55 and Old Route 55 in Pawling, New York.
Circumstances: According to his family, Kayden was riding his motorcycle to work when a vehicle allegedly pulled out in front of him, resulting in a head-on collision.
Severity: The impact shattered his helmet and ejected him from the motorcycle, which subsequently caught fire.
Medical Timeline
Kayden fought for several days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), during which he suffered a hemorrhagic stroke and multiple skull fractures.
April 27–28: Despite being revived after going into cardiac arrest multiple times, the injuries to his brain were catastrophic.
April 29: Doctors declared Kayden brain dead due to a total lack of blood flow to the brain caused by severe vascular damage.
May 1: Following his family’s heartbreaking decision to honor his spirit, Kayden was taken off life support on Friday.
Remembering Kayden
Kayden, who had celebrated his 19th birthday just eight days before the accident, is being remembered as a “free spirit” full of grit and warmth.
Family: He was one of four siblings (one sister and two brothers) and is described by his parents as a uniquely funny and loving son.
